About the Author

Lika Fedorenko was born in 1961. She took to photography in her childhood. She became a member of the legendary Photographers Association “Mirror” and the societies “PhotoPostScriptum”, “Petersburg’s Photoarcheology”, “Interphoto” through the 80’s and 90’s. In 1994 she became a member of Photographic Artists’ Union. She took up scenography, design and video art back in 1998.
Lika is one of those artists, whose works reflect not the external world forms but the time passing through them. In her pictures you see the rich life of time and space. Her vision is fully represented in the projects “Time Before Me” (1993-1995, Saint-Petersburg, London), “Space of Sight” (1996-1998, Saint-Petersburg, Leverkusen, Frankfort on the Main) and “River Under the River” (2005, Saint-Petersburg). Her brilliant works were on display in Russia, Europe and the USA and presently are kept in collections all around the world.

I don’t consider myself a photographer, but rather a “courtyard poet”. Film camera or digital are just my tools among others (Photoshop is used as a kind of magic).
I follow the non-subject approach which is an effort to reflect overwhelming feelings possessing my soul for a long time, an attempt to answer the essential questions of Being. It’s an unhurried and quiet report about events in the inner world.
Suddenness and chance nature of the process, those “accurate inaccuracies” of the moment, are of great value to me. I realize the necessity of the author’s make of the original print and the importance of the project’s atmosphere, its exact context, the whole being more than just the sum of its elements.
I work in long cycles, with natural silences in between.
